Back injury deepens doubts over Deepak Chahar’s IPL return

Back injury deepens doubts over Deepak Chahar’s IPL return while recovering from the quadricep tear he picked during India’s T201 series against West Indies in February.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, the gravity of the injury remains yet to be ascertained and CSK are yet to get a formal report from the BCCI.

CSK had snapped up Chahar for a whopping Rs 14 crore at the mega auction for the IPL 2022.

Things are definitely not going in favor of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as their fast bowler Deepak Chahar suffered a back injury during his rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

While the severity of the injury is yet to be ascertained, it is learned that the Super Kings are yet to receive a formal report from the BCCI.

The bowler has been at the NCA for over a month now and was recovering from a quadricep tear picked up during India’s T20I series against West Indies in February.

Chahar was not retained by the Chennai Super Kings ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction and after a huge bidding war between the franchises, Chahar was brought back by his former franchise for Rs 14 crore and became the second costliest player.

However, CSK have not been able to fill the void created due to his absence and have suffered four consecutive defeats in their first four matches so far in IPL 2022.

The inclusion of Tushar Deshpande, Adam Milne, Mukesh Choudhary, or Chris Jordan has not made any difference to the franchise’s results and they would like to provide opportunities for either KM Asif or Rajvardhan Hangargekar in the upcoming games.

Chahar has become a likely candidate for the Indian team at the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia this year with some great performances in the recent past, and the management would not want to risk him with any major event anytime soon.
