India has made a clean sweep of West Indies in the three-match T20I series. In the third match played at the Eden Gardens ground in Kolkata, India defeated West Indies by 17 RUN. Batting first, India scored 184 RUN for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs thanks to Suryakumar’s stormy half-century. In response, the West Indies team could make only 167 RUN for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Nicholas Poor RUN made the most of 61 RUNs for West Indies.
Among the Indian bowlers, Deepak Chahar bowled only 11 balls, taking two wickets, but after that he got injured. Harshal Patel bowled brilliantly, taking three wickets for 22 RUN, while Shardul Thakur took two wickets for 33 RUN. Venkatesh Iyer impressed everyone with his all-round performance, first supporting Suryakumar with the bat and then picking up two wickets for 23 RUN in 2.1 OVER.
Suryakumar Yadav (65) made maximum RUN from India. Opting to bat first, India got off to a bad start. Ruturaj returned to the pavilion after making four RUNs. After which Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer shared 53 RUN in 36 balls for the second wicket. Iyer got out after making 25 RUN. On the other hand, Ishan Kishan was dismissed after making 34 RUN in 31 balls despite a fast start. Captain Rohit returned to the pavilion after making 7 RUN in 15 balls.
With this win, India made a clean sweep of the West Indies throughout the tour and became their second such achievement. Earlier in 2017, the Indian team led by Virat Kohli had a 9-0 clean sweep of hosts Sri Lanka in all three formats (Test, ODI, T20) on the tour of Sri Lanka. Apart from that, Pakistan and New Zealand have done twice each, while Australia and West Indies have done so once each.
Suryakumar made his best performance in T20 Internationals, scoring 65 RUN in 31 balls with seven sixes and one four. He got out on the last ball of the innings. Apart from him, Venkatesh Iyer played a good role in his 19 balls with four fours and two sixes making 35 unbeaten RUN. India added 86 RUN in the last five overs.
Suryakumar, along with fast bowling all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer, put on a 37-ball 91 RUN for the fourth wicket to help the Indian team recover from the early dismissals of the middle-order players. Shreyas Iyer (25) and Ishan Kishan (34) had shared 50-plus RUN partnerships in just 32 balls but both could not convert the good starts into big innings and were dismissed within seven balls.
The West Indies spin duo of Hayden Walsh (1 for 30 RUN) and Roston Chase (1 wicket for 23 RUN) bowled brilliantly in the middle overs. Leg-spinner Walsh got Shreyas Iyer caught at long off while Chase took Ishan’s wicket in the next over.
The Indian batting order got a new look with Ishaan opening the innings with Gaikwad while Shreyas Iyer came out to bat at number three and captain Rohit Sharma at number four. After making his series debut against Sri Lanka in July last year, Maharashtra’s ‘RUN Machine’ Ruturaj could only play eight balls, but he timed the ball well. But could not last long.
Ishaan, who was the highest-seller in the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction, did not do well in the first two T20Is. He hit three fours in the fourth OVER off four balls from Romario Shepard.
