IPL 2022: The Chennai Super Kings’ skipper Ravindra Jadeja has decided to hand over the captaincy of the team to MS Dhoni, the IPL franchise announced on Saturday. “MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest & to allow Jadeja to focus on his game”, said the Chennai Super Kings in a
Sunday’s double-header on May 1 turned a little quicker in the Indian Premier League (IPL), with MS Dhoni set to return as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings.
Dhoni, who passed the baton to Ravindra Jadeja, has been offered his position by his mentor, who believes he has failed massively, eight matches in his first season as CSK captain.
With just four points from eight matches, CSK are at the bottom of the points table and have chosen to hand over the captaincy to MS – well, officially at least.
They will face the in-form Sunrisers Hyderabad team, which lost a very tough match against Gujarat Titans and will once again try to get back on the winning track.
Ravindra Jadeja statement
The statement read: “Ravindra Jadeja has decided to step down from the captaincy to focus more and focus on his game and has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK.
“MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game.”
IPL 2022: Ms Dhoni captaincy record for csk
In the 213 matches in which Dhoni led the Super Kings – in the IPL and the now-defunct Champions League T20 – he recorded 130 wins, suffered 81 losses, and won a record six titles in four IPLs and two in two competitions CLT20.
Jadeja has scored only 112 runs in eight innings and has taken five wickets. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told Sportstar: “Jadeja told us today after a discussion with the team management and we respect his decision.”
Asked if it affects the team’s future plans, considering Jadeja as a long-term option, Viswanathan said, “We are focused on this year and do our best to find a way to qualify.” Will try our best. As for the future, we will decide about it later this season.”
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said about Jadeja’s captaincy
Ahead of the start of the season, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that they were not worried about Jadeja’s lack of leadership experience as Dhoni would be around.
“There will be no problem as MS is also going to come on the field of play. Dhoni knows how to handle it (the transition) and will be there for guidance,” Viswanathan had said.
As it turned out, Dhoni was sometimes calling the shots. For example, during the Lucknow Super Giants defeat in his second game, Jadeja had little involvement in the delivery to Shivam Dube for the 19th over.
“It was a high scoring game. Deep midwicket is an area where catches are likely to be taken. We needed a good fielder there,” Jadeja, who fielded in the deep during the slog overs, later explained. Wasn’t able to communicate that much with bowlers. Mahi bhai gives inputs. He has a lot of experience. We don’t have to look anywhere else for advice.”
