Umesh Yadav’s four-wicket haul and Andre Russell’s unbeaten half-century ensured an easy six-wicket win for Kolkata Knight Riders against Punjab Kings in an Indian Premier League match on Friday.

Batting first, Punjab were all out for 137 runs in 18.2 overs, in which Umesh Yadav took 4 wickets for 23 runs. In reply, KKR scored 70 runs in 14.3 overs in 31 balls with the help of two fours and eight sixes.

The Andre Russell storm finally hit the Indian Premier League 2022 as West Indies smashed an unbeaten 31-ball 70, taking home Kolkata Knight Riders with six wickets and 33 balls to spare. Sam Billings played his unbeaten 23-ball 24 as the duo shared a 45-ball 90-run stand for the fifth wicket after bowling KKR to 51 for four. Removing Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana, Rahul Chahar struck twice in the same over and remained untouched by the carnage with two wickets for 13 wickets in four overs.

Umesh Yadav’s sensational spell of four for 23 sent Punjab Kings to bat and were reduced to 102 for eight. Kagiso Rabada played a crucial innings of 25 off 16 balls to take Kings to 137. Punjab looked to their chances to pull off the miraculous defense of a modest target but Odion Smith was dismissed for 30 in the 12th over, sealing the fate of the Mayank Agarwal-led side.

KKR 114/4 in 13 overs: Rahul Chahar is the only player to remain untouched by carnage in the form of just four singles and one wide from this over. Brilliant figures for the leg-spinner, who ends up for two for 13 in his four overs.

KKR 109/4 in 12 overs: Odeon into the attack. Four! Loose ball, wide out leg and Russell just shows him his bat and drives it over the ring and to the fine leg boundary. Six! KKR 56/4 in 9 overs: Chahar continues. Billings comes forward to defend mid on. He reverse sweeps the next ball and makes a good stop on point to keep it for a single. Tossed on off and Russell defends. It’s a straighter and Russell moves to the rescue. A gentle dab to the small third for a quick one. Umpire reviews from striker for a run out but Billings is a mile away. One more point to end the over.

KKR 54/4 in 8 overs: Harpreet Brar in the attack. Makes a deposit at Billings Long Off. Russell got off the mark with a single on point. Another one for Billings with a drive through cover. Russell goes back to his crease to rescue the bowler back. Defended again by Russell to end the over.

KKR 51/4 in 7 overs: Rahul Chahar in the attack. Flew to Shreyas, who slaps straight on point. defeated! Chahar turns her away from Shreyas and cheats on her in the air. Slow but very full off and Shreyas leans into an extra cover drive for his first boundary. Four! Width and room outside and Shreyas slashes it to the point for another boundary.

KKR 14/1 in 2 overs: Rabada from the other end. Venkatesh is in third place with less than a wicket. Rahane hits this length ball off the shoulder. Four! Rahane drove off peacefully through covers. Comes forward and leans into the drive with an open face. Rabada calls it too far out and wide. Fuller length outside off and Rahane lets it go. No sign of readiness on the part of the batsmen in the middle. Rahane leans back and hits short third from short one for a dot ball. outside! PBKS 104/8 in 16 overs: Varun will bowl his last over. Odion steps out and tucks this full one behind the square for a single. Varun continued to beat Rabada from outside. Rabada takes this length ball to off on long on for a single. Give over. A sensational spell came to an end for Varun, who ends up with 0 for 14 in four overs.

PBKS 102/8 in 15 overs: Umesh will bowl. Over the wicket, Brar is caught on middle and leg and he defends it back. outside! Umesh pitches it over the off-stump and knocks Brar out for a bit of a move. Harpreet Brar b Umesh Yadav 14(18b 1×4 1×6). Rahul Chahar is in and out on the first ball! Now four dots in a row. Full on middle, angling round the wicket to Brar, and he misses. Harsh appeal to LBW but Shreyas reviews it. The review was lost as the ball went missing from the leg-stump. PBKS 85/5 in 10 overs: Narine continues. Bawa starts with a couple, driving through cover. Four! Re-fired and has enough power to penetrate the infield and run up to deep cover fences. outside! PBKS 78/4 in 9 overs: Umesh hits his third over. Full and straight first up and Bava pushes from mid on for a one. Four! Livingstone pushes hard, slightly aerial, outside through cover and a much-needed range. Umesh darts it too far from outside and calls wide. The buzzer also goes off and it is a no-ball as Umesh oversteps. Umesh gets away with it as Livingstone gets a rough outside edge for third man, who is trying to take it out on the outside. Bawa taps to the off side and wants a quick one but is sent back halfway down the pitch and just makes his ground. Naren swings it down the side and Bawa hits it back for one. Turning too far down is called foot and wide. Length outside and Livingstone defends it. Straight on the stumps and Livingstone comes forward to flick it from mid-wicket for a single. Bawa keeps strike with another.

He drives it to a point for one and opens his account on his fifth ball. Tucked behind fine leg for a single and Livingstone keeps the strike.

PBKS 62/3 in 6 overs: Southee bowls her second over. starts with a point. Six! Livingstone steps outside, pitches the ball, and takes it to wide long on for his first maximum. Goes for a bridge on the next ball but misses it and takes a leg-bye. Four! Dhawan cuts it behind point for a boundary as the quick outfield helps the ball go its way. outside! Two sixes off two balls for Rajapaksa as he hits this full flick on the pads at mid-wicket and flicks his bat like a helicopter-shot after making the connection. Six! Mavi changes his angle, comes round the wicket, but the result is the same. It is slow from outside and Rajapaksa sweeps this over mid-wicket for a third consecutive six. outside! Tuck the next one to deep square leg for one. Six! Dhawan steps out and hits it straight over the bowler’s head. Two singles to end the over as Umesh pulls his length back a bit.

PBKS 7/1 in 2 overs: Southee from the other end. Dhawan almost cuts his stumps as he gets a thick inside edge on the drive. Dhawan leaves the channel next. PBKS 2/1 in 1 over: Umesh is steaming and Mayank is dismissed for the first ball and misses. Just a slip in place. Drifting length on leg and Mayank whips it to the pads but straight to square leg. First run for Punjab Mayank runs through covers for one. Umesh on the strike, comes over the wicket, angles him. Dhawan is on strike with a single to mid-wicket as he hits it with his hips. outside!
